TWD: Burnt Sugar Ice Cream

This week's Tuesdays with Dorie is Burnt Sugar Ice Cream chosen by Becky of Project Domestication. Normally burnt anything doesn't sound that appealing, but since caramel is really just burnt sugar, I knew I would love this. Being a total ice cream aficianado didn't hurt either. (I would like to apologize for the photo, I let Tim take the picture and it was the last of the ice cream. I had visions of taking a picture of it in a cone, and it just didn't happen.)

This ice cream was very creamy. Tim thought it was a little grainy, and the kids didn't even get to try it, so no opinion there. It took awhile to thicken the custard up, but once it did, it was like a thick pudding. I churned it the next day and I let it go for like 30 minutes and it didn't make that much. Usually my ice cream base at least doubles once it's churned and this time it didn't get quite so voluminous. I highly recommend this. It would be great between the cookies of the Dulce de Leches. Unfortunately I didn't think of it until just now after the ice cream was gone.
